JOSH Murphy hopes last weekend’s victory at Wigan Athletic marks the start of a run of form that will boost Norwich City’s promotion bid.

The 19-year-old realises the importance of stringing together positive results in the Sky Bet Championship.

Murphy spoke exclusively to canaries.co.uk after a signing session for supporters alongside Jonny Howson at the Canaries Official store in Chapelfield on Tuesday.

“We won at the weekend and hopefully that will kickstart our season again so we can get up the table. We’re a good team and there’s no reason why we can’t push for promotion, even after the bad run we’ve had,” he said.

“Especially in this division, you need to get a little run going. I think that will come though, we went eight games unbeaten with a lot of wins in there, and with the team we’ve got it’s something we’re looking towards.

“We’re seven points off the top two and anyone can beat anyone in this league. The players that we’ve got in there, there’s no reason that we can’t get promoted.

“There’s a good togetherness with us all, it’s a big family. The results haven’t been going our way but the performances have been there.”

Murphy enjoyed his breakthrough season last year and has been a part of every matchday squad in the league so far this campaign.

“It just shows that the manager has got faith in me,” he added.

“It’s something I relish because there’s always an opportunity to go out there and impress, contribute to the team and hopefully pick up goals and assists to get us valuable wins.

“I go into every game feeling excited and knowing that I can do the job. With the team I’ve got around me, there are exceptional players – some of the best players in the league - so you always feel confident whether you’re starting or coming off the bench.

“I feel part of the team and that’s a great feeling when you’re 19.”

Murphy’s brother Jacob moved to Blackpool on loan in November and earned the Seasiders’ Player of the Month award after two goals in his first three matches.

Watching from afar, Murphy has seen his twin’s confidence rocket.

“I’m delighted and everyone’s delighted for him. It’s good for him going up there and doing well, because everyone wants to see that,” he commented.

“He’s just thriving on confidence and he’s playing well, so I’m delighted for him and he’s obviously buzzing. I hope it continues and I’m sure it will.

“He just needs to keep going and then as soon as he’s back at Norwich, he can start doing the same here as well.”
