… THE CARDIFF COMEBACK
“Reflections on it are like the game itself. If you ask me about the first half you get a completely different answer than what you do for the second half. Overall, it was an outstanding performance and result considering how poor we were in the first half. You never want to win that way, by being so far in the hole as we were, but what you can take from it is the ability we had to get ourselves out of that hole and go on to produce a fantastic performance and result.

"It’s not a bad tool to have in the back of our minds, if you like. If and when there’s a time when we’re firing quite as well as we should be, then we’re capable of turning it around. My objective is that we don’t have to get there anyway. Let’s start better, let’s put ourselves in front and not have to worry about how we recover."

… THE BRENTFORD CHALLENGE
“They’re another team similar to Wolves, and we know what happened with that game. They were promoted last season, they’re on a roll and they’ve started really, really well. I was impressed with their manager in pre-season with his comments when people were asking if is it about consolidation and staying up, and I think his response was that he couldn’t go into the dressing room and ask players to just stay up. That tells me what he’s about and what they’re about. They are not here to make up the numbers, they’re sixth in the table, they had a good win on Saturday, they’re a very dangerous, attacking team and we’ll treat them with the respect that we treat every team. We’re well aware of what could happen if we’re not at it."

… THE SQUAD’S INJURY LIST
“Pleasingly there doesn’t look to be anything too serious. Russell Martin has got a bit of a back strain, and he’s probably the only one we’ve got a concern about from Saturday. He was complaining about his back during the game, but the fact that he got through that is a good indicator. He had Sunday to recover, and if he needs another 36 hours then we’ll give it to him. There’s nothing other than that, apart from the usual knocks and bumps, like Kyle Lafferty who took a knock on his ankle. Jonny Howson and Gary Hooper trained with the first team on Sunday so there’s a possibility of them playing in Friday’s Under-21s game against Leicester."

… TEAM SELECTION
“I’m not afraid at all to change a winning team, and that’s the sort of mentality you need at a winning club. You don’t achieve things with eleven players; you achieve things with a squad, and particularly at this level with the volume of games. You have to manage that squad, and there will be times like on Saturday when we went with two taller central defenders to deal with Kenwyne Jones, and I think we did that quite well at times.

"We changed it from an unbeaten run of Saturday – Javier (Garrido) and Steven (Whittaker) were very unlucky not to play. What’s important is that we pick a team to win the game, and of course players will be a little bit miffed at times, but if they’re successful ultimately in seven or eight months’ time, then they won’t be too bothered by that.”
