A look ahead to this weekend's trip to Tyneside

THERE’s a welcome return to Premier League action this weekend after a fortnight’s break – and the Canaries will be hoping to carry on from where they left off against West Ham United with a positive result against Newcastle United.

The 3-1 victory over Sam Allardyce’s men at Carrow Road lifted City out of the Premier League relegation zone ahead of the trip to one of Allardyce’s former teams on Saturday afternoon.

Chris Hughton has also managed the Magpies of course, but will be aiming to come away with all three points from his old place of work to help his current employers further up the table.

The Canaries’ only league points on the road this season came from the 1-0 victory over Stoke City, while they have taken just one point from their last five visits to Tyneside.

They will take encouragement from the fact that, despite Alan Pardew masterminding a 2-0 win over Chelsea in Newcastle’s last home game, both Hull City and West Ham have come away with points from St James’ Park.

From the 50 competitive meetings between the two sides, Newcastle lead the head-to-head having won 21 matches to City’s 15. There have been 14 draws.

NORWICH CITY 2-1 Newcastle United 20/04/2005 – Premier League

LAST TIME AROUND… Norwich City 0-0 Newcastle United, January 12 2013 – Premier League...
Both teams played out an uninspiring 0-0 draw the last time they met at Carrow Road back in January.

The point did bring a halt of four consecutive defeats to an end for the Canaries, but they could have earned all three with the woodwork denying Russell Martin and Anthony Pilkington also going close.

Chris Hughton said after the final whistle: “Our final ball and our delivery from set plays let us down.

"On the balance of play we were the better team but you have to score goals and we weren't able to do that.

"Certainly, in the end it was not a bad point."
