TUESDAY’s 3-1 defeat to England made it an international break of mixed fortunes for Scotland’s two Canaries, Russell Martin and Steven Whittaker.

Each defender played the full 90 minutes in the friendly at Celtic Park, yet it was the visitors who came out on top thanks to Wayne Rooney’s brace and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s opener.

Four days earlier, however, Gordon Strachan’s men edged out the Republic of Ireland 1-0 on the same ground to record an important win in their quest for Euro 2016 qualification, with Martin and Whittaker part of the defence that kept out their Group D rivals.

Other City stars away with their countries included Kyle Lafferty, who was looking to resume his fine form for Northern Ireland as they faced a tough trip to Romania in Group F.

Their run of consecutive wins came to an end in Bucharest as Lafferty completed 90 minutes in a 2-0 defeat, but Michael O’Neill’s team remain in second position and in place for an assault at automatic qualification.

Alexander Tettey missed Norway’s 1-0 friendly loss to Estonia on 12 November but played the entire game in Baku as they beat Azerbaijan on Sunday thanks to Havard Nordtveit’s strike.

Nathan Redmond and Josh Murphy represented England Under-21s and Under-20s respectively over the course of the past seven days.

Redmond played 73 minutes against Portugal last Thursday, a 3-1 victory at Turf Moor, and the full game versus France on Monday, when their 11-game winning streak in all competitions came to an end with a 3-2 defeat in Brest.

The Under-20s also had two games, with Murphy appearing as a substitute in their 2-2 draw with Canada in Bournemouth last Wednesday before starting against Portugal on Monday, when they triumphed via a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw on Coimbra.

Finally, Cameron King enjoyed a debut to remember for Scotland’s Under-21s – the attacking midfielder came off the bench against Switzerland in Thun to bag a stoppage time equaliser on Tuesday.
