ALEX Neil confirmed on Friday that Louis Thompson is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering damage to his Achilles during training this week.
Thompson only recently recovered from a pelvic issue but the midfielder will be out for the remainder of the season according to his manager.
Neil told Norwich City TV: "To be honest, it's devastating for the lad, for the club and for the squad.
"We started training and unfortunately Louis went over and severely injured his Achilles. It's a really tough one, I really feel for the lad.
"He's worked hard to get himself back to a level of fitness and back involved. He's certainly out for the season."
Neil is still short on central midfield options with Graham Dorrans (knee) and Youssouf Mulumbu (international duty) out for Saturday's visit of Birmingham City.
Alex Tettey also remains on the brink of incurring a two-match suspension as he sits on nine yellow cards for the campaign.
Hamstring injuries have set Steven Whittaker and Matt Jarvis back, with Neil describing Whittaker's chances of making the game against Gianfranco Zola's Blues as 'touch and go'.
Nelson Oliveira is definitely out, however, as he serves the final game of a three-match suspension for his dismissal against Rotherham United earlier this month.
