The fixture will be Norwich’s second game in four days, and with another match against Sheffield United on Saturday it is a busy period for the squad. Aside from long-term absentees Alex Pritchard, Jamal Lewis and Matt Jarvis, Farke says he is picking from a fully-fit squad.

“All the guys are fit,” he told the media on Monday afternoon. “They took some hits against Birmingham but nothing too serious or special. All of the guys have been able to train, so I have a good choice again.”

Wes Hoolahan spent Saturday’s win over Birmingham on the bench, and Farke says he’s fine to start if necessary. “Wes had problems with his groin while he was away [on international duty] but he played for Ireland on Tuesday for around 65 minutes. I thought about playing him in the starting line-up, but he’d been away, and with the travelling involved I decided to have him on the bench. Right now he’s back and fully recovered.”

With the quick turnaround, Farke says he has to balance sticking with a winning side and making sure players aren’t overworked. “It’s a difficult balance to make. There’s no reason to have changes after that performance, and it’s important to find a rhythm for the lads. But there’s just two days between the games, and for example it was Alex Tettey’s first league match and we have to be a little bit careful with him so we’ll wait to see how he feels tomorrow.

“All the guys in the midfield – Tettey, Tom Trybull, James Maddison, Mario Vrancic – ran a lot and you have to be a little bit careful. So there could be a few changes because of the workload, but also because Burton will be a different opponent in comparison to Birmingham.”

After a series of injuries meant Farke was picking from a small pool of fit players at the start of the season, he is delighted to have so many options to choose from now.

“On Sunday after the game I thought we had the best performance we’ve had on the training pitch,” he says. “The quality was so high, and it’s good to have options. You have to take some hard decisions but it helps because you can bring some motivated and fresh guys in, and also react in tactical terms.

“It’s great to have most players back at 100%. You need to have competition in professional football, but it’s also important to have a good atmosphere and togetherness with a great respect between the lads and accept that sometimes you won’t be in the starting line-up and the squad. These guys are really good with their attitude.”
