Finland international Teemu Pukki will be unavailable for Saturday's clash with Wigan Athletic in the Sky Bet Championship, head coach David Wagner has revealed.

However, both Sam McCallum and Marquinhos are due to return to training ahead of the trip to the DW Stadium.

"Teemu will be out for tomorrow, Sam McCallum and Marquinhos will be back in training. Anyone else is healthy after the last game," Wagner said before elaborating on the importance of proper recovery in double gameweeks.

"We know he will be out for Saturday, for the rest of the week we don't know. Even if you would like to have Teemu available, we have Liam and Nacho who can also play as the second striker. I have every trust in the squad available.

"Sam had a tight hamstring so we took him out of training for five or six days. Marquinhos picked up an injury in training, not a bad one. He was out for nine days but will be back tomorrow in team training.

"It's all about recovery and getting a tactical message across. It's more progressed than a normal week, but we are used to this in the Championship."

On the opposition, now coached by former player Shaun Maloney, Wagner reiterated his stance that the focus has to always be on the team's own performance.

"We always say it, the most important thing is we stick to our principles, our identity, play our football, no matter who is in front of us," he added.

"If it's a top three team or a bottom three team, that can't influence our mindset.

"We have to prepare for the challenge in front of us, mentally and physically. We need consistency in our performances, that starts with how we approach a game, how we play in and out of possession."

The head coach was also asked about Max Aarons who is closing in on his 200th appearance for the club.

"Max is a good character, a very good lad. He is very solid, a top professional, always fit. You can always rely on him. We've had some conversations about how I think he can get to another level attacking-wise.

"We want to see better, bigger numbers for goals and assists. This is something we want to see from our full-backs. There's still lots of potential there."
