The 20-year-old was named in Daniel Farke’s team for Wednesday night’s 2-1 victory at the Madejski Stadium.

Cantwell previously played in both of Norwich’s Carabao Cup wins against Stevenage and Cardiff, but said making his first league start was an amazing feeling.

“I’ve been training hard and working as hard as I can to try to get that opportunity and when you get your chance you’ve got to bring something to the team and I was delighted to see my name starting,” said Cantwell.

“Playing in the in the cup is brilliant but playing in the league week in week out is fantastic, so to get a little taste of that is top news for me.”

Cantwell has come up the ranks through the Norwich City Academy, and as a Norfolk-lad said the moment was particularly special for him.

"It is special for me and special for the fans as well and it shows the hard work that has been put behind me in the Academy has really paid off,” he said.

“I want to thank everyone who has been involved with me because you are surprised to think of the little details you learn along the way and seeing Max and Jamal doing so well gave me every confidence. The manager has shown he is going to trust us and we can only try to repay that.”

As well as playing the full 90 minutes, Cantwell also provide the assist for Pukki’s 14^th minute goal.

He said: “It is exactly what I’m there for. I’m going to try to get assists and bring stuff to the offensive play. It is really important to do your bit for the team and it was a real tough game for us. For long spells of the game we had to defend well and as a team we defended brilliantly.

“Massive credit should go to Mario, he took the goal so well. He came on and changed the game for us. Going 1-1 is hard, especially when you are away from home it is hard to dig in again and for Mario to come on and do a bit of special play to get that goal is fantastic. From there on in we defended well as a team and got the three points we deserved.

“My legs are feeling tired but you have got to put it in for as long as you are on the pitch for. You’ve got to put everything in for the team and I am glad I stayed on for 90 minutes.”

And after making his first league start, Cantwell said he will continue working hard to make the sqaud.

“We got a good win and I think the most important thing moving forward is that we try to keep getting wins and whatever way the manager thinks that is possible we are all right behind him,” he said.
