OVER the course of the season at Carrow Road, Tunnel Cam has witnessed different visiting managers partake in contrasting rituals in the build up to kick-off.

Manchester United’s David Moyes remained firmly entrenched in the away dressing room, while former Canary Steve Bruce took the opportunity to come and visit with some of the Yellow Army near the players’ tunnel ahead of Hull’s warm-up.

On Sunday, as Spurs Head Coach Tim Sherwood focused his attention firmly on a TV screen in one of the broadcast interview rooms adjacent to the tunnel - I found myself reminded of the significant influence that the City v Spurs clash would have on both ends of the Premier League table.

As Sherwood watched closely as Liverpool and Swansea traded blows in a thrilling contest at Anfield, it served as a reminder that Premier League players and managers, when removed from the theatrical extravagance of a match day, are really just fans at heart like the rest of us.

Sherwood’s body language while watching Liverpool eventually prevail in a 4-3 home win, taking the Reds six points clear of Spurs ahead of kick-off in Norfolk, resembled the same thing you would expect from one of your mates sitting in his family room on the edge of his seat. He was simply a man watching a Sunday’s football, hoping for the best for his team.

Unfortunately for the Spurs boss, things would only get worse for his side’s Champions League pursuit as the day unfolded.

There were moments of real jubilation for the Canaries faithful at Carrow Road as a boisterous Barclay Stand broke into fist-pumping celebrations (captured on one of our unmanned GoPro cameras) as the final whistle sounded out, confirming a crucial victory for Norwich City.

I then had the chance to capture the gaffer, Chris Hughton, handing out a round of his trademark handshakes as he congratulated his players as they re-entered the tunnel following a well-deserved win over one of the top sides in the country.

Hughton’s post-match position just inside the tunnel has become somewhat of a staple on Tunnel Cam this season, and I can only imagine that there are few better matchday moments for Canaries fans than watching the manager share the satisfaction of a big win with his troops.

To wrap up this week’s episode of Tunnel Cam, we were for the first time, able to bring you a manager’s view of what it is like to address the press after a disappointing defeat.

By watching the press conference unfold from a camera placed behind the manager’s seat in our press conference seat, you are able to witness the scenes as a horde of journalists and reporters place their microphones and recorders in front of Sherwood before he begins to answer questions.

While editing that clip in particular, I remarked to one of my colleagues here in the media office that I sympathised for managers, as coming out to face the lights, cameras and dictaphones of the press core must prove quite a suffocating experience at times.

But then again, I suspect there are few fans amongst us who wouldn’t fancy a go in Sherwood’s shoes.
