Wolves v Norwich City

CITY got straight back to winning ways as they held on to beat Wolves 2-1 at Molineux.

The Canaries made the perfect start when after just two minutes Cameron Jerome nodded Wes Hoolahan's pinpoint cross past Carl Ikeme to fire his team out of the blocks.

While Wolves posed a threat in wide areas, City's ball-play was excellent and Jacob Murphy should have scored when the influential Hoolahan set him up in the box on the half hour mark but Ikeme kept his low shot out with his legs.

The hosts tried to inject some momentum after the break, but after substitute Nouha Dicko had seen a glorious chance come and go, Robbie Brady struck a beautiful left-footed shot into the top corner from distance to double his side's lead.

Nerves of City fans everywhere were left jangling for the final ten minutes, however, when Dave Edwards headed home to halve the home team's deficit.

Despite Walter Zenga committing a number of his troops forward, this time City held on for the victory to rise back into the automatic promotion places.

Neil made two changes from the midweek defeat at Newcastle as Timm Klose returned in central defence in place of Sebastien Bassong.

Jonny Howson had to be content with a place among the substitutes as Hoolahan came back into the team following his omission from the starting eleven at St James' Park.

Robbie Brady and Murphy operated off the flanks, with Alex Tettey partnering Graham Dorrans in central midfield.

Following the desperate finish to proceedings at St James' Park on Wednesday, City needed an early boost at Molineux and that's exactly what they got.

Jerome took up the ideal position close to the penalty spot and Hoolahan's swinging left-footed delivery was inch-perfect, with Ikeme only able watch the forward's header go across him and in.

The goal meant Neil's men quickly settled into their rhythm, and for the remainder of the opening 45 minutes they controlled the tempo and direction of the game.

This victory will banish any remaining demons from the 4-3 midweek loss to Newcastle, but more importantly City added another three vital points.

Huddersfield's win at Ipswich earlier in the day left them at the peak of the Sky Bet Championship, but City joined them in the top two with their seventh victory of the league campaign.
