City cruise past MK Dons in 6-0 win to start pre-season fixtures

21 August 2020

Norwich City started their host of pre-season fixtures in the best way possible after beating Milton Keynes Dons side 6-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Friday.

Daniel Farke introduced some of City’s newest signings to a wealth of minutes in the starting line-up, Bali Mumba, Sam McCallum, Jacob Sorensen, Przemyslaw Placheta, Kieran Dowell and Danel Sinani all finding themselves in the eleven.

It didn’t take long for some of the Canaries newest signings to get themselves involved, Placheta and Sinani linking up nicely in the opening exchanges. The Polish winger bombed down the wing before squaring it to Sinani, who’s shot was slightly off as it was saved by the Dons’ ‘keeper.

Placheta’s lightning pace continued to wreak havoc among the Dons’ backline, breaking through once more to see himself one-on-one with the ‘keeper on the left side of the box, his shot finding no luck again as it rolled just wide of the post.

Just minutes later, Sinani fancied himself in front of goal once more, his shot from the edge of the 18-yard box ringing off the crossbar.

The Canaries wouldn’t have to wait long for a goal however, Josh Martin breaking the deadlock for the home side.

An MK Dons’ mistake saw the opportunity for a counter-attack capitalised on from City, getting bodies forward with pace. Sinani led the charge, but saw Martin coming into the box free on his right, squaring it to the Academy product to fire home.

Despite the Dons’ kicking off fired up, they remained open for another Canaries attack, Martin bagging his brace just eight minutes after his first goal.

Placheta continued to assault the wing with his relentless pace, breaking free from the defence and swinging a low-driven cross into the box. Martin was in the right place at the right time, taking a deft touch before lacing it into the bottom corner with ease.

The Canaries continued on the front foot nicely as they stifled the attacks of Russell Martin’s side, but the Dons’ held out until the half-time whistle, seeing the deficit at 2-0 by the 45-minute mark.

Just four-minutes into the second-half, City were awarded a penalty after a foul in the 18-yard box. Adam Idah stepped up to the spot, firing over the bar as the scores remained 2-0.

It didn’t take long for City to recover with another goal, however. A short corner found the head of Mario Vrancic, flick it on to Marco Stiepermann who volleyed into the open net.

A quiet 20-minutes ensued shortly after Stiepermann's finish, City cruising comfortably through the match.

It wasn't quiet through to the end, however, Adam Idah making his impact and getting himself on the scoresheet. With just over 15-minutes left on the clock the Irish striker finished nicely from close-range, the second academy product to do so in the 90.

City weren't done there either, Hernandez adding the fifth on 79 minutes. A display of outrageous skill in the box from the Cuban sold the Dons' defence, before firing his effort into the far corner.

Five still wasn't enough for the Canaries, adding the cherry on top with a sixth in the 86th-minute, as nice passing play saw Emi Buendia tap his finish into an open net to round the match off, the MK Dons' 'keeper caught off his line.
