Aston Oxborough is excited to impress the new faces at Norwich City as he and the U23s prepare for their season opener against Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday.
After a demanding pre-season with a variety of different tests, Gill’s squad get their league campaign underway against the Seagulls at Colney (2pm).
It’s a match that goalkeeper Oxborough is looking forward to and he hopes it will be the first of many victories this season.
“Pre-season was really good,” he said. “Obviously we worked a bit with [Matt] Gilly and [Darren] Hucks at the end of last season and we got good results with them, getting to the semi-finals of both cups.
“We covered all bases in pre-season. We played technical U23s teams to senior men’s teams and that's got us used to the physicality of the men’s game.
“Hopefully we can carry that on to the start of this season."
Oxborough only played a handful of games for the U23s last season but after the departure of Ben Killip to Grimsby Town, he’s ready to make the No1 jersey his own this year.
“Obviously I didn’t get as many games as I would have liked last year,” he continued. “That’s made me really excited to get some games in the forthcoming season.
“I’m really eager to impress the new faces at the Club and show people what I can do.”
Brighton finished 8th in Premier League 2 Division 2 last season and Oxborough is looking forward to a tough challenge.
“We’re feeling very confident. The message over the past couple of weeks has just been to focus on ourselves and not worry about them.
