Norwich City's Under-23s were narrowly beaten by Eintracht Braunschweig in their second friendly of a pre-season tour of Germany on Friday.
Matt Gill's side fell behind on 11 minutes courtesy of a crisp finish deep inside the box, following a frantic start to the game.
With temperatures cooler than they had been on Wednesday, that tempo remained for much of the first half as the Canaries chased an equaliser.
They had a handful of chances to do so, but Diallang Jaiyesimi's strike deflected wide before Michee Efete headed against the post from a Todd Cantwell free-kick.
Going into the break behind, their task was made harder early in the second period when Braunschweig doubled their advantage with a low strike from outside the area.
Braunschweig's Franke struck the bar with a header from a set-piece just before the hour-mark, with City goalkeeper Jake Hallett getting a vital faint touch to prevent a third.
Jaiyesimi's fierce drive was beaten away by the goalkeeper, but the midfielder deservedly pulled a goal back minutes later by cutting onto his left before sliding home.
City pushed hard for a leveller, but were ultimately held at bay by their continental counterparts.
