Matt Gill: Under-23s still have things to improve on

26 August 2018

Matt Gill was delighted with his Under-23s' 4-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Monday and admitted there is plenty for his side still to improve on.

An Adam Idah hat-trick and one from Ant Spyrou fired the young Canaries to a comfortable victory at the West Brom Training Ground.

The result moves Gill's side up to third in Premier League 2 Division 2 and the Head Coach believes there's more to come from his team.

"We didn’t start the game that well which has been a recurring theme," said Gill. "West Brom had opportunities early on but after that, we looked a real threat.

"Jon McCracken was excellent in the opening 15 minutes and Timi [Odusina] was really good at the back. We then started to get a foothold in the game.

"Our front three [Simon Power, Idah and Spyrou] were frightening going forward and helped us lead 3-0 at half-time.

"In the second-half, we knew West Brom would throw a lot at us but the boys defended really well. I'm delighted with the clean sheet as well as the four goals.

"Going away to win 4-0 is always good and it was nice to back up last week's win with another three points. But there's still things we can improve on."

A quick turnaround awaits Gill's team as they are back in action against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Carrow Road this Friday night.

"Wolves have started the season really well. It will be a tough test but the lads are really looking forward to playing at Carrow Road for the first time this season.

"The turnaround is good. We want to replicate the first-team environment as much as we can. We'll recover a bit on Tuesday before turning our attention to Friday."
