Norwich City recorded their second win of pre-season at home to Lincoln City as a late goal from new signing Pierre Lees-Melou settled the match.
Head coach Daniel Farke made several changes to the team that started away at King’s Lynn on Friday, with Christoph Zimmermann, Jacob Sørensen, Milot Rashica, Lukas Rupp and Przemysław Płacheta keeping their place in the starting 11 as Michael McGovern, Max Aarons, Dan Adshead, Todd Cantwell and Adam Idah came into the team.
In hot conditions at the Lotus Training Centre, it was Norwich who started the better with Placheta causing problems down the left with his pace and Rashica crossing for Idah, who was closely marshalled by the visiting defence and unable to get a shot away.
It was Rashica who had the first effort at goal when he fired over from 20 yards out and then around the midway point of the first half, Sam Long had to race of his line quickly to prevent Idah from getting on the end of a through ball from Cantwell.
Norwich were controlling possession at this point, without creating too many clearcut opening, but Lincoln’s Liam Bridcutt was forced into a good last ditch tackle to prevent Rashica getting a shot at goal from inside the area and then denied Idah what looked to be the opening goal when he blocked his effort six yards out.
Aarons, in the closing stages of the first half, then picked up a blocked shot from Cantwell cut inside and sent a left foot shot inches wide of the post before Idah looped a shot over from inside the box.
Farke made four changes at the break, bringing on Bali Mumba, Jordan Hugill, Billy Gilmour and Angus Gunn.
Lincoln City had a good chance to 1-0 up early in the second half when James Jones sent in a low ball, but Trialist C was unable to keep his shot under the crossbar.
However, in what was a more even second half in terms of possession, Norwich responded as Gilmour won the ball back high up the pitch and set up Dowell whose curling effort from outside the box sailed just wide.
Norwich continued control proceedings after that moment, with Gunn not troubled in the home goal, but it took until the 88th minute for the Canaries to break the deadlock as new-signing Lees-Melou collected a ball inside the box and curled an unstoppable finish in off the post.
