Under-18s hold Brighton level to extend unbeaten streak to six

18 January 2020

Norwich City Under-18s were left wanting more after their 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

The game didn’t get off to the best start by City’s standards. A dangerous cross whipped in by Brighton left many Canaries taking a stab at saving the effort, unfortunately to no avail. Being left with a clear shot, Jack Spong buried the effort through all of the action, giving the Seagulls an early lead.

The reset gave the Canaries a new lease of life, matching Brighton in their competitive nature, trying their hardest to get back into the game.

After fighting on for a fairly actionless 30 minutes against a robust Brighton, City finally found their elusive equaliser. A beautiful ball inside from Tyrese Omotoye matched the stride of Jon Rowe perfectly, giving the young striker room to strike it first-time, seeing the shot blaze past the ‘keeper. A hard-fought equaliser before the break, the second-half was crucial for both sides.

The second-half resumed, and it was straight back to the tense atmosphere of the first. Brighton were looking for that second goal to edge the Canaries, but they were being held well by the visitors. City were looking dangerous themselves, going blow-for-blow with Brighton in creating goal scoring opportunities.

The 75th minute-mark struck, and it was coming down to the wire. The scores remained level and both teams were clearly not satisfied with sharing the points, leaving just 15-minutes for something to be made.

A gritty end to the game saw neither team find that winner however, leaving them no choice but to settle for the points being shared. Although, positives can be taken, with the Under-18s now extending their unbeaten streak to six.

The Under-18s next face Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday (7pm kick-off).
