Norwich City’s Under-18s were seen out of the Premier League Cup quarter-finals by Stoke City on Saturday afternoon, after suffering a 8-0 defeat to the Potters.
Stoke wasted no time in making their mark, with their first goal coming as early as the eighth minute. Mohamed Sankoh found the back of the net after being set up nicely by teammate Patrick Jarrett, taking the Potters side one up early on as the effort beat Sam Blair.
Just ten minutes later the Potters tripled their lead, finding two goals in less than two minutes. Andre Goderinne found his name on the scoresheet, shortly followed by Sankoh, who made sure to get his brace early.
It was a half to forget for the Canaries, after a second goal from Goderinne and a first for Jarrett saw the City side five down by the end of the first-half.
A much-needed break saw the teams back on the pitch for the second-half, and the Potters were still hungry. Adam Porter became the fourth name on the scoresheet by the 50th minute, slotting another one home to tally up Stoke’s sixth goal of the game.
Stoke were still playing a tough game, finding their seventh goal of the afternoon in the 65th minute, when Sankoh bagged his hattrick.
From here, the game slowed until the 86th minute, when Jarrett sunk another goal past the Canaries, taking the count to eight. The referee blew the full-time whistle just minutes later, seeing the home side progress through to the semi-finals of the Premier League Cup comfortably.
It was always going to be a big challenge for the Canaries to face a tough opponent and play a third game in nine days, one of which being the FA Youth Cup fourth round. It was a write-off afternoon, and one to learn from for the young City side.
