1,000 fans returned to Carrow Road for one of the EFL’s trial events during Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Preston North End.

Following the match, fans and members of the press commented on the somewhat surreal experience and what they made of the game.

Sky Sports - “A noisy contingent of 1,000 fans were at the game as part of the EFL's test events and they were treated to a battling display from one of the favourites for promotion, even though they were some way below their best.”

Paddy Davitt, PinkUn - “For the second week running in the Championship Norwich City found a way to get a result. In that regard this was far more impressive than the opening day win at Huddersfield. Preston is a streetwise outfit at this level under the combative Alex Neil. Twice they led, twice Norwich hit back.

“Norwich’s hard work to draw up plans for re-admitting supporters, when government and public health bodies finally indicated it was possible, meant they were prepared to take part in the Football League’s pilot. It was a heartwarming sight to see fans walking towards the ground in the sunshine, and then spread socially distant in the South Stand.”

David Freezer, Norwich Evening News - “It was Tim Krul, Michael McGovern, Daniel Barden and goalkeeper coach Ed Wootten out first to be greeted by a big cheer, as any nerves about the day gave way to a realisation that those lucky fans were back home after more than six agonising months away. 

“There’s a reason Idah has just been capped by Ireland and is keeping Jordan Hugill waiting as well. He has a balance of physicality, skill and speed that coaches crave in a striker. He may only be 19 but he’s ready and hungry for some proper game time.”
