Our club

The Beginning

Norwich City was founded in June 1902 after a meeting at the Criterion Café in Norwich.

The club played their first games later that year, initially wearing a sky blue and white kit before a change in 1907 to the now familiar canary yellow and green.

The yellow and green kit remains the club’s primary colours to this day while other areas have continued to change or evolve around the club – in terms of infrastructure, organisation and community.

Investment & Development

The football club aims to develop their own talent through the Category One Academy which has provided numerous players to the club’s first team down through the years.

That is aided by the recent investment in the Academy infrastructure at the Avant Training Centre which has made it a top-class working space for the coaches and teams from Under-12 all the way up the Under-21s.

The Avant Training Centre continues to evolve with the ongoing construction of a recovery hub and office building for staff based at the training base.

Our People

At the stadium, supporter feedback is regularly taken on board as to how the matchday experience can be enhanced by any infrastructural changes such as the recent survey regarding the feasibility and demand for rail seating, as well as the planned redevelopment of the City Stand.

While on-field or physical development is important for any football club, Norwich City prioritise, with the same importance, the development of staff across the entirety of the club.

The growth and success of our people, whether coaches, administrative staff, backroom team or casual staff is integral to the achievements of the club and the offering that is available to those who choose to take part in any aspect of Norwich City.

Giving Back

With a large portion of the club’s ethos centred around community and continuing to inspire and support Norfolk and the surrounding areas, we strive to reach as many people in our locality as possible whether that’s through the Foundation’s charitable programmes, our mental health awareness campaigns or sustainability signposting.

One such operation was ‘A Home for Everyone’ – the club’s own campaign that incorporates our commitment and work within the area of equality, diversity, inclusion and mental health.

It takes many forms internally and externally across the club. From strategy, policies and best practice to education, raising awareness and taking robust action against all forms of discrimination.

The campaign will continue to evolve and grow with the aim to effect change-led action in line with our core values whilst enhancing the culture of inclusivity and belonging at the club.

Through our core values – Growth, Belonging, Integrity, Resilience, Pride and Commitment, Norwich City aim to provide a safe and progressive space for all of our community.
