A group of academy scholars hosted another tournament at the University of East Anglia Sports Park as part of their apprenticeships and BTEC programmes, following on from last week's tournament.
The tournament is in its second year of running and was designed to help the academy scholars get more involved with the local community. It allowed them to plan and complete an event, where they could practise the skills that they have been developing within their BTEC programme and apprenticeship.
The academy designed the tournament around the BTEC programme, with the outlook of making the programme relevant and adding value to the scholars programme and to the community.
Again, the second year scholars organised the event themselves as part of their BTEC and SEP qualification. It was slightly more challenging due to weather, but they handled it really well. The tournament ran smoothly and the boys used their experience and knowledge gained from the first tournament to make sure that the second event would run effectively.
The Under-18s involved were Ken Aboh, Alex Matos, Dubem Eze, Michael Reindorf, and Finley Welch. There was also a number of Under-17s involved; Uriah Djedje (Winning Team), Leon Giller, Pedro Adamou, Alex Roberts, Waylon Renecke, Caleb Ansen, Benjy McCabe, Harrison Thompson, Alfie Doy, Alfie Pinyoun.
The scholars reviewed and evaluated both events for their BTEC and SEP apprenticeship programme, and their practical coaching on the day aided them towards their coaching qualification.
The event was a success and it gave the first year scholars an opportunity and learning experience to see what they would be completing and running in their second year of the programme. We hope to continue to run the tournaments each year to support our partner schools and gives the students and scholars a valuable experience.
Over the past few months the scholars have worked hard to plan, organise and run these events for the local schools and they have done a fantastic job. Both events were a great success and I couldn’t be more proud of them. It’s a great example of the holistic approach the academy takes to their scholarship. Events like this help them to gain valuable life skills, and keep the connection with the local community that is so important to the club. Thanks again to all involved and, well done lads!
