A group of academy scholars hosted a tournament at the University of East Anglia Sports Park as part of their apprenticeships and BTEC programmes.
The tournament is in its second year of running and was designed to help the academy scholars get more involved with the local community. It allowed them to plan and complete an event, where they could practise the skills that they have been developing within their BTEC programme and apprenticeship.
The academy designed the tournament around the BTEC programme, with the outlook of making the programme relevant and adding value to the scholars programme and to the community.
The scholars were in charge of planning and running the entire event, working up to it for a few months in advance, before gaining their different qualifications.
The focus this year was on girls' football, to help both the players involved and the scholars, challenging them in an area they have less experience with.
The academy used the close relationship with Ormiston Trust Schools to help put the event in place.
The Under 18s involved included Finley Welch, Dubem Eze, Osman Foyo and Michael Reindorf. They were assisted by a group of Under 17s, including Caleb Ansen, Leon Giller, Pedro Adamou, Alfie Doy, Alfie Pinyoun, Alex Roberts, Waylon Renecke, Harrison Thompson, Benjamin McCabe and Uriah Djedje.
The event at UEA this year was really successful. I am extremely proud of the scholars for organising the tournament so successfully. They did themselves and the club proud in the way that they conducted themselves and it was clear how much the students (and scholars!) enjoyed the event. We are looking forward to the Year 7 boys event next week! Well done to all scholars and staff involved, and thank you to all that came down to support.
