Alan Neilson spoke to canaries.co.uk about a first league defeat of the season for Norwich City Under-21s, as well as looking ahead to Friday's trip to Aston Villa.

The Under-21s suffered their first league defeat of the PL2 campaign on Monday night, losing 4-1 away at Nottingham Forest. But attention quickly turns to Friday night, as the side travel away to play their Aston Villa counterparts.

"I've said earlier in the season that we've not played so well but managed to get some results, and I felt like it was the opposite on Monday night," Neilson explains.

"The weather was treacherous. We got there at six, and it rained the entire time. Even when the game started, it was chucking it down with rain. And we conceded in the first two minutes, which really knocked us back.

"After a disappointing first-half, we came out and gave it a really good go in the second half and played really well. We passed the ball really well. On the stats, they had 267 passes, and we had 592.

"We couldn't quite break down them in the final third, they defended their box really well. We managed to score one through Ben Watts, which was a real screamer. We switched the ball from one side to the other, and hit from what must've been 30 yards into the top corner.

"Great strike, but it was a shame we couldn't find a goal earlier on."

The Canaries travel to Bodymoor Heath, Aston Villa's training ground for their next PL2 fixture and will look to return to winning ways. The fixture sees the Under-21s play twice in one week, something a little bit different for the side.

"We're going through the process of Monday's game, and showing the players the game plan for Friday. We'll look at how we can beat them, and how they might impact or hurt us, and how we can stop that from happening.

"This week is just all about getting them ready for Friday night. We had the recovery day on Tuesday, come in and train on the Wednesday, they trained with the first-team on Thursday as they play QPR on Wednesday night.

"Just need to recharge their batteries, keeping them ticking over, and make sure they're all ready for Friday night."
