Norwich City Under-21s coach Alan Neilson says his side's performance was very good, as they recorded a 2-2 draw against Stoke City last Sunday.
His side continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League 2 season last weekend. Abu Kamara and Thomas Dickson-Peters netted for the Canaries, but they were unable to hold on for all three points.
“Performance-wise, it was very good. We created a lot of chances, played some really good stuff through the thirds. Overall, it was a pleasing performance. We’ve had games this season where we’ve not created as much.
“Not really happy with the goals we conceded, perhaps a little bit too sloppy. We created a lot of chances, and probably should’ve scored more goals.
“The season has gone very well points-wise. In terms of performances, we can definitely play better. We score goals, but we’re still waiting on our first clean sheet in the league. In this game, we gave away a penalty after a few minutes, but it’s all about learning and developing, and getting the players ready for the first-team."
Playing away at Stoke gave Neilson and the players the opportunity to play at St George's Park. Opportunities to play at these kinds of venues is only going to improve the players, says the Under-21s coach.
“It was the first time I’ve taken a team there \[St George's Park\], the pitch is obviously very good. We’ve had that a lot recently, we’ve played at Carrow Road, we’re playing at Meadow Lane, a lot of great stadiums in the next few games.
"It’s a great experience for them, and hopefully some of the players will be playing at those stadiums in the first-team."
Kamara continued his impressive start to the season with another goal, and has already been nominated for Premier League 2 Player of the Month for September. Neilson says he has been pleased with the forward's start.
“As a forward player, we know we can trust him. He scores goals, and probably admits to himself that he could’ve scored more this season. But that shows he’s getting in the right areas.”
The Under-21s are back in action next Friday, October 21, as they welcome West Bromwich Albion to Carrow Road (7pm KO).
