Norwich City Under 21s extended their unbeaten streak to six after a 2-1 win over Derby County on Friday, September 30.
Alan Nielson’s side played under the lights at Carrow Road in front of a crowd of a few hundred and saw a goals from Abu Kamara and Lewis Shipley.
He said: “It was great being back at Carrow Road, although it was a little bit frustrating in the way we played.
“We didn’t play as well as we can but we still created a lot of chances, we just need to be better in position.
“The players know they could have done better, but we’re still the Under 21s, we’re still learning and trying to make better players.”
“It’s superb to be in front of a crowd at Carrow Road, its great experience for the players and for some of them it was their first match there.
“If they want to play for Norwich City, they have to perform at Carrow Road.”
City conceded late in the game to the visitors, as Courtney Clarke netted in the seventh minute of injury time.
“I think the defenders were disappointed to concede late and lose the clean sheet. It would’ve been the first clean sheet of the season. We did a review of the game on Tuesday and the lads took it really well, we know we should have more ‘blockers’ there.
“Sometimes players have to learn that set plays are a really important part of our games and they have to be in the right positions.”
Abu Kamara netted City’s first of the night inside 25 minutes, scoring in his seventh goal in his sixth consecutive match.
“Abu is scoring goals like he was last season. We know the whole squad is capable of scoring goals, and at the minute he is scoring his goals. Tom Dickson Peters is creating chances too but not quite taking them.
“The players have to keep on working hard because it’s hard to push into the first team, especially when you’ve got Pukki and Sargent up top. If they keep on scoring goals and working hard, and developing their game, they’ll get a chance in the first team.”
Norwich City Under 21s face Stoke City next on Sunday, October 9 at St George’s Park and then return to Carrow Road action on Friday October 21.
