Andrew Omobamidele was delighted to play a key part in Saturday’s 1-0 win away to Sunderland.
“I’m so happy,” he said after the game. “It was one of those games that was just a defending game. We recognised after the game that it wasn’t our best game on the ball but it counts in those moments - that little bit of quality from Josh Sargent and Ramsey, who took a good touch and put it across the box for Josh to tap in.
“Grant and the boys put in some big blocks and those are the types of games you like to win.
“Grant puts his body on the line for anything. You have that feeling and I can’t explain it when a centre-back partnership is blocking everything.
“We knew it was going to be one of those days from the first ten minutes when they were putting us under pressure but I’m just happy because games like that bring us together and make the bond stronger that we were able to see out that type fo game.”
Todd Cantwell, Teemu Pukki and Aaron Ramsey came off the bench with half an hour to go, the latter helping to change the game.
“That’s the depth that we have - any three of those boys can start for us, so for them to come off the bench and make a massive impact - Aaron is still a young boy and what a touch. He passed it across to Josh and the impact was great, Todd as well getting into the pockets and bringing that composure and that personality behind their midfield. That’s what we needed at that point of the game.
“I’m loving it. These are the types of games especially for a centre-back that you need. You need to be tested, you need to be in an away stadium like this with the fans against you, making blocks and being in the right positions with communication.”
On the support from Norwich fans in Sunderland, Omobamidele said: “It’s wonderful. Even though they were in the top tier, I could still hear them throughout the game. The support is crazy and doesn’t go unnoticed by the players. It gives us that two per cent extra and drives us on a bit more. From all of us, we appreciate it so much.
“In the Championship, momentum is everything and once you get in the rhythm of that winning mentality - it’s three games now on the bounce and hopefully we can continue that with Birmingham on Tuesday.”
