Ashley Barnes netted a hat-trick as Norwich City were 6-1 winners away to King's Lynn Town in their second pre-season fixture of the 2023/24 season.
Josh Sargent opened the scoring in a first half full of goals, before Barnes (2), Tony Springett and Sam McCallum all added themselves to the scoresheet. A Shane Duffy own goal meant the Canaries were 5-1 up at the break.
Barnes continued where he left off in the second half, completing his hat-trick, as Norwich cruised to their first win of pre-season.
Summer signing Duffy was given his first appearance since joining the club, starting alongside Ben Gibson. There was also a first start for Jack Stacey, with Kenny McLean and Josh Sargent also in the starting line-up.
The Canaries started out the brighter team, and registered the first sighter on goal from Marcelino Núñez, but the Chilean's effort was off-target.
Sargent would open the scoring just after the 10-minute mark. Barnes and Przemysław Płacheta combined well, with the Pole's shot being parried into the American's path, and he fired beyond Dixon-Hodge.
Chances for Norwich would continue to flow in the opening stages, as Barnes found Sargent in the area but the American's effort was saved well by the King's Lynn 'keeper.
The hosts would also create chances of their own, with Trialist forcing Tim Krul into a smart save at his near post.
Barnes doubled the lead, grabbing his first goal in Norwich colours. After some great work from Stacey on the right, the striker's improvised finish gave Dixon-Hodge no chance as the Canaries made it two.
Shortly after, it would be three. Sargent was patient with his build-up and found Springett on the edge of the area, who finished into the far corner.
Sargent could have added a Norwich fourth before the break. A great pass from Springett put him in on goal, but he couldn't keep his effort down.
But there would be a fourth goal before the break, as McCallum did brilliantly to beat a defender before curling beyond Dixon-Hodge.
Barnes then added his, and Norwich's fifth, of the first half, flicking at the near post from Płacheta's cross.
There would be a goal for King's Lynn at the end of a manic few minutes as the first half came to a close. A defensive mix-up saw Duffy head beyond Krul, with the hosts pulling one back in a busy first half of football.
The second half saw the head coach introduce 10 new players. Goalkeeper Vicente Reyes was introduced to make his first appearance since signing from Atlanta United, with Barnes the only player to continue into the second half.
Barnes would complete his hat-trick six minutes after the restart. Bali Mumba capitalised on a defensive error, and Barnes tapped into an empty net for Norwich's sixth of the afternoon.
In a quieter half compared to the first, both teams registered half-chances as the second half went on. Adam Idah saw a couple of efforts go close, before King's Lynn had one of their own.
After some great wing-play from Onel Hernández, the Cuban's cross was met by the head of Jonathan Rowe. The effort looked goal-bound, but a strong hand from the 'keeper tipped it over for a corner.
There would be only one goal in the second half, but an emphatic first half meant the Canaries record their first win of pre-season.
