Ben Gibson says he and his Norwich City teammates will be targeting a strong and resolute performance against Burnley on Sunday.
The former Middlesbrough centre-back, who joined Norwich from the Clarets in the summer of 2020, says the players are under no illusions about the importance of the game, with the Canaries are eight points from safety in the table.
However, he says if the club can win against Burnley at the weekend, who are also in the relegation zone, it could make a massive difference and prove a springboard for survival.
“A win can make a massive difference,” he said. “We are under no illusion about the situation. The table doesn’t look good, but one win or two back-to-back results can make a big difference.
“We have been given a lifeline with the result the other day, with Burnley and Everton, and we have got to try and win this game this weekend and, if we do, then we are right back in it. Football changes quick.
"I know Craig Shakespeare our assistant manager was at Leicester when they were down and out and they won seven of their last nine games to stay up. You have just got to keep fighting until the end. We will all stick together as a team and as a club.
“We have seen this season, if we get one win, we can get back-to-back wins. We have done that on two occasions, and we are going to need that and we are going to need that belief. We will keep going and we will keep fighting and let’s hope the chances come and we take them.”
Asked if the team needed to show the same defensive resolve that saw them get a point at Brighton last time out, Ben added: “Yes, we have to. Last time out against Burnley we kept a clean sheet and we are going to need to do that again. We are aiming to keep a clean sheet because we can’t afford to be conceding goals like we have. What has gone is gone now, all we can focus on is the remaining games. We have got to go into them wholeheartedly, be strong and resolute as we can at the back and, hopefully, we can be free flowing going forward.”
