Ben Gibson says Norwich City will learn from their pre-season defeat to Newcastle United.
Gibson played the full 90 minutes as Newcastle ran out 3-0 winners after a strong second-half showing.
Despite impressing in the first-half, City lacked cutting edge in both boxes.
Speaking afterwards, Gibson said: “It was a good test and a good run out but a disappointing result and disappointing second-half.
“We’re missing a lot of players and came up against a good side.
“For the first-half, we played well. Our structure was good, without really doing much damage at the other end. That’s what you’ve got to do in the Premier League, you have to be clinical.
“It was a big learning curve. We had a lot of young lads out there today. That’s the level we’ve got to get to. It’s a harsh reality when you’re not on it and not quite right.”
Gibson admitted the game was a lesson for players in the squad who aren’t accustomed to playing Premier League football.
“That’s what we’re going to come up against. If you’re 1% off it, that’s going to be the outcome. We won’t get too down about it. It’s been the first top test we’ve had. We’ll take the positives, minutes in the bank and players coming back.”
City started with a back three at St. James’ Park and Gibson says it’s a system City are more than comfortable playing in.
“The boss has difference ideas and different options about how he wants us to play. When the back three is needed, we’ll turn to it.
“I thought we did quite well with it in the first-half, second-half we have to do better.
As for next week, Gibson says he cannot wait to play in front of a full Carrow Road.
“It’s been a long time coming. The largest amount I’ve played in front of a Carrow Road is 2,000, apart from the other night. I’m really excited, we’ll put today behind us and we’ll be ready for it.
“Liverpool at home is what it’s all about, under the lights in front of a packed Carrow Road. We cannot wait.”
