Billy Gilmour is relishing his first taste of competitive action in a Norwich City shirt, as the Canaries host Liverpool in the evening kick-off on Saturday.

Gilmour, who joined on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea in July, has been involved right throughout pre-season and is now ready for the challenge of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Carrow Road this weekend.

Speaking at the Premier League’s annual media day at the Lotus Training Centre, Gilmour said: “I can’t wait for the season to start. We’re looking forward to the game, we know it’ll be tough against Liverpool but it’s an exciting time.

“I’ve enjoyed pre-season. It’s been difficult with the cancelled games but when we’ve played, we’ve done well. We’ve looked sharp and the work on the training pitch has been good as well.

“I’m learning in training every day, but there’s still loads more for me to learn too.”

Gilmour offered an insight into his first impressions of working with Daniel Farke:

“The boss here is really on it. He wants to play football the right way. Of course, in tough moments we may need to look at other ways to play.

“He’s been great with me and speaks with me every day about how Norwich play and it’s great for me to learn.”

Gilmour joined the Canaries off the back of an impressive showing for Scotland at Euro 2020 and he hopes to carry that form into this season.

“I think I can bring a calmness to the team. I like to keep the ball and, despite being a small player, I’m not scared of a tackle.

“I would like to think I can bring something new to the me and hopefully it works.

“For me, I knew after the Euros I needed to go and get first-team football regularly. To come here to Norwich, I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s been different but the boys have welcomed me really well and I just can’t wait to get started.”
