Billy Gilmour said it was an amazing feeling to play in front of more than 10,000 fans at Carrow Road as Norwich City put in a five-star performance in a pre-season friendly against Gillingham.

It is the first time fans have been back inside the stadium this year, because of Covid-19 restrictions, and Billy, who joined on loan from Chelsea in the summer, said it was great to have fans back inside the ground.

“It was an amazing feeling,” he said. “Fans are back and honestly it was so loud. When we were scoring and the fans were celebrating, there is no better feeling.

“It makes me really excited for the Liverpool game in a couple of weeks. It is a big fixture to start the season and hopefully we can continue our positivity into that.”

Gilmour helped set up the third goal of the game as he fizzed a pass out wide to Dimitris Giannoulis who then played a first time cross into the six-yard box for Lukas Rupp to tap home.

Billy says he has settled into life at Norwich very quickly and is already building understanding with his new teammates on the pitch.

“It was a really good game for us,” he said. “We had not played in a while now due to (Covid-19) reasons, but the boys came here and we knew we needed to work hard and we scored five goals and got the win.

“I am loving it,” he added. “All the boys are really good with me. I have settled in quickly. It is a good bunch of boys, and you can see from what we showed out on the pitch that we have got a good understanding already and hopefully that continues throughout the season.

“We are a good attacking team, with Max (Aarons) and (Dimitris) Giannoulis who will go down the wings. If we can find them, then we can get balls into the box and that is the reason we scored five goals tonight.”
