Momentum is so important in sport and our convincing midweek win over Birmingham City demonstrated the positivity around the squad.
It was underlined by three excellent, well-worked goals – two from Marcelino Núñez and another from Christos Tzolis – that were moments of real quality.
David Wagner is pleased with the progress the team are making under his guidance and his drive and desire is being matched on the pitch by the players.
This is also an important occasion off the field because we welcome one of sport’s most successful tennis players back to Carrow Road as a guest of the directors.
Today we will celebrate Alfie Hewett’s first Australian Open grand slam victory following his 6-3 6-1 win at Melbourne Park over Tokito Oda last month.
Alfie is a huge Norwich City supporter and we watched his progress in Australia with great pride as he went on to win his seventh grand slam title.
We know how much the singles event meant to Alfie after losing in the final in the previous two years, but he has been rewarded for his desire, tenacity and supreme skill in the sport.
He is a special player and after victory in the singles, he went on to add the doubles crown with Gordon Reid.
As a club we are delighted that Alfie has accepted an invitation to be here and we know that he will be given a magnificent reception.
As a Norfolk boy he is a huge part of the community and we will support his desire to help develop the sport and inspire another generation of youngsters to take up tennis.
We are also hoping to inspire the next generation following the announcement of our strategic alliance with the University of East Anglia.
This arrangement is part of our plans for further engagement in the area and we are thrilled to be able to work with the UEA on various projects.
It is an opportunity for us to share ideas with various departments at the university and we will continue to share updates in the coming months.
This alliance is an important development and we are looking forward to working strategically with the university staff to help build a better future at Norwich City.
Today we have a different challenge with the visit of Cardiff City and it will be another test for us.
Although David still believes there is so much more to come from this group. The players and backroom staff at the Lotus Training Centre continue to work hard with the ultimate aim of ending the season in a positive manner.
He demands the very best and he has been pleased with the application, attitude and desire of the squad in this recent run of form.
Our performances at Carrow Road have improved and we have a big opportunity to follow up on our recent midweek wins over Hull City and Birmingham with the visit of Cardiff.
