Today’s game against Middlesbrough is already our 21st in the Championship and this is a good opportunity to reflect on the season so far.
Our last three results, with victories over Stoke City and Rotherham United, plus the draw at home to QPR, puts us within striking distance of the top two places in the league.
That is where we want to be. The will is there and so is the intention.
Your vociferous support at Rotherham last weekend was exceptional and this really put a spring in the step of our coaching staff and players during the game. It really did make a massive difference.
Although the lengthy winter break is not ideal, it gives our injured players time to recover and to prepare for the demands of the run in when we restart the season at Swansea on December 10.
The expected return of Andrew Omobamidele, Adam Idah, Jonathan Rowe and Jacob Sorensen to first-team training will give the squad another lift over the coming weeks.
They are important players, and they will add to the competition for places as we prepare for the second phase of the season.
We've also seen some of our players benefit from a significant run of match action. Sam McCallum is a player we've nurtured and worked closely with since his arrival from Coventry City in the January transfer window of 2020. We're now seeing the benefit of our successful loan programme and Sam benefitting from a run in the team following a spell out injured.
Another who has recently returned from a spell on the sidelines is Isaac Hayden. Isaac is a player we worked extremely hard to bring to our football club over the summer. Unfortunately, he's been extremely unlucky with a few setbacks in his recovery from injury, but we are now beginning to see the quality we all know he has. As well as contributing on the pitch, his character and personality around the group has been felt.
This week we held the club’s Annual General Meeting, this is an opportunity for shareholders to hear from the Board and Executive Committee and to put their questions to the club. We were delighted that Mark Attanasio was able to attend the AGM and meet those of you that were able to attend.
Our fixture today also gives an opportunity for our fans to welcome Mark Attanasio for his first game since his appointment to the board of directors. Mark is attending today with his family and some colleagues from the Milwaukee Brewers and we know everyone will give them a huge welcome.
Over the coming weeks our first team group will travel to Tampa for a warm weather training camp. We of course thank our long-term partners, Tampa Bay Rowdies and Visit Tampa Bay, for their ongoing support and helping pull this trip together.
The training over this mid-season break will be important for the group and ensure that we're at full pelt heading back into the second half of the season.
As well as training, a selection of our players and staff will make appearances at various community programmes in Tampa and the surrounding area. Our community work is something that we pride ourselves on, be that through the Community Sports Foundation or other initiatives.
Finally, everyone at Norwich would like to wish Josh Sargent well at the World Cup after the USA confirmed his place in the squad.
Josh is a hugely popular figure in the dressing room and everyone at Norwich hopes he goes on to have a highly successful tournament.
