A look at Norwich City player Grant Hanley's inclusion in Scotland's squad for the 2020 UEFA European Championships.
Hanley was born in Dumfries and spent time at Queen of the South, Crewe Alexandra and Rangers in his youth before joining Blackburn Rovers as a 16-year-old.
He made his debut for the club in May 2010, featuring in a 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Internationally, the defender was a regular at youth level for Scotland and was named as captain of the Under-19s side, and made a solitary appearance for the Under-21s.
The 32-year-old made his senior debut for Scotland in May 2011 in a Nations Cup tie against Wales, replacing Gary Caldwell for the final six minutes.
At club level, Hanley became a regular for Blackburn and went on to make over 180 league appearances for the club before moving to Newcastle United in July 2016.
However, his time at St James' Park only lasted a season before he moved to Norwich the following summer.
He made 32 Championship appearances in his first season at the club, and was named as club captain following Russell Martin's departure during the 2018/19 season.
Hanley continued to be a regular in the Norwich defence and was part of the sides that won the Championship in both the 2018/19 and 2020/21 seasons.
In May 2021, he was named part of Steve Clarke's squad for the 2020 European Championships, as Scotland played the Czech Republic, England and Croatia.
The defender played the entirety of Scotland's first two group games; the first being defeat to the Czech Republic, and then a goalless draw against England. He was forced off through injury in the final group game against Croatia as Scotland exited the tournament.
Club-wise, Hanley has gone on to make almost 200 appearances for Norwich in all competitions, and made 10 appearances in an injury-disrupted 2023/24 campaign.
Despite his injury troubles, the defender was named in the provisional Scotland squad for the 2024 European Championships, where they will face Germany, Switzerland and Hungary.
