A look at former Norwich City player Martin Olsson's inclusion in Sweden's squad for the 2016 UEFA European Championships.
Born in Gävle, a city almost 200km north of Stockholm, Olsson began his footballing journey at Högaborgs BK before making the move over to England to sign for Blackburn Rovers in January 2006.
It was during his time at Ewood Park that Olsson would make his debut for the Swedish national side, after featuring for them at youth level. He marked his international bow with two goals off the bench in a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The defender would mark his first Sweden start with a goal, netting the third goal against San Marino with Zlatan Ibrahimović providing the assist.
In July 2013, he made the switch to Norwich and featured 34 times in the Premier League in his debut season at Carrow Road, and made 42 Championship appearances in the following season for the Canaries.
The 2015/16 season saw the Swede appear 24 times in the top flight, and the full-back played in both games for Sweden as they beat Denmark in the play-offs to qualify for the 2016 European Championships in France.
It was a disappointing tournament for Olsson and for Sweden, as they finished bottom of their group behind Italy, Belgium and the Republic of Ireland. Olsson featured in all three group games, remaining a key part of Erik Hamrén's defence.
Sweden finished with a lone point in Group E of the tournament, with their only draw coming against the Republic of Ireland.
Olsson returned to Carrow Road after the tournament, making 19 appearances in the first half of the 2016/17 Championship season before his move to Swansea City in January 2017.
He would stay in Wales until the expiry of his contract in the summer of 2019, where he would later return to his native Sweden, playing for both Helsingborgs IF and Häcken, before joining Malmö FF in August 2021, where he continues to play today.
