A look at former Norwich City player Wes Hoolahan's inclusion in the Republic of Ireland squad for the 2016 UEFA European Championships.
Born in the Irish capital of Dublin, Hoolahan spent time in his youth career at Belvedere and Shelbourne, eventually becoming a professional at the latter.
He went on to make over 150 appearances for the club, before a brief spell in Scotland with Livingston and later joined Blackpool on loan, a deal that was later made permanent.
Hoolahan made his debut for the Ireland senior side in May 2008, coming on as a substitute in a friendly against Colombia.
The following month saw the Irishman head to Carrow Road, and he would soon become a key part of the Norwich side over the next several years. City's number 14 was a fan favourite and was named in the PFA Team of the Year in both the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons.
He would feature regularly for the Canaries, and was named part of Ireland's squad for the European Championships in 2016, alongside Norwich team-mate Robbie Brady.
In their first group game against Sweden, Hoolahan opened the scoring for Ireland at the Stade de France with a fantastic volley from Seamus Coleman's cross, his first goal for Ireland. An own goal from Ciaran Clark meant the points were shared.
A defeat to Belgium followed, before Hoolahan crossed for Brady to head in the winner in a 1-0 victory against Italy to book their place in the Round of 16 against France, where the tournament hosts would progress with a 2-1 win.
The 42-year-old spent two further seasons at Carrow Road, before moving to West Bromwich Albion in September 2018 after a decade with Norwich.
A spell in Australia with Newcastle Jets was next, before he announced his retirement from professional football after a two-year stint with Cambridge United.
