Norwich City fell to a 3-1 defeat against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in the Sky Bet Championship.

Kellen Fisher made his first league appearance for the Canaries, coming in for Jack Stacey. Adam Forshaw, Christian Fassnacht and Hwang Ui-Jo also moved into David Wagner's starting line-up.

Despite going ahead, Norwich would go in at the break a goal behind.

George Long was called into action after 10 minutes, getting down well to push away Pierre Ekwah's effort from the edge of the area.

Jack Clarke came closest to opening the scoring in the game's opening stages, seeing his curling effort deflected out for a corner.

But despite Sunderland's chances in the first half, the Canaries would go in front. Fisher's cut-back was met by Hwang who found the bottom corner brilliantly.

Jonathan Rowe set up Fassnacht, who fired over the bar as Norwich went in search of a second goal.

Sunderland would level just after the half-hour mark, as Trai Hume's deflected effort managed to beat Long in the Norwich goal.

And just before the break, Sunderland would go in front. Clarke found Dan Neil with a splitting pass, and he calmly finished beyond Long.

Fassnacht almost squeezed a header in at the back post, meeting Dimitris Giannoulis' cross but saw his effort hit the post and bounce clear.

Ekwah would fire another effort from the edge of the area, with Long pushing it wide for a corner.

Borja Sainz's run forward led to Hwang teeing up Marcelino Núñez on the edge of the area, but his effort was blocked.

Sunderland had the perfect opportunity to add a third after Kenny McLean tripped Clarke. The 22-year-old stepped up himself and netted from the spot.
