Canaries fall to defeat away to Leeds

Norwich City fell to a 1-0 defeat away to Leeds United in the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday night.

Norwich City fell to a 1-0 defeat away to Leeds United in the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday night.

David Wagner made one change from Saturday's win at home to West Bromwich Albion, with Marcelino Núñez coming in for Ashley Barnes.

There was a half-chance for the Canaries in the game's opening stages, as Kenny McLean almost found Shane Duffy with a clever ball into the box.

Patrick Bamford then saw an ambitious overhead kick go wide of Angus Gunn's posts, after some good wing-play from Junior Firpo.

But only moments later, it would be Bamford who would give Leeds the lead. The striker headed into the far corner from Dan James.

A Gabriel Sara corner caused the hosts trouble, with McLean miscuing the eventual volley.

Jonny Rowe saw an effort saved well by Ilian Meslier, after some good play from the Canaries.

Just before the break, Norwich almost found an equaliser. Jack Stacey's cross found its way to Sara, whose effort went wide of the post.

In the second half, the Canaries had a strong spell of possession but were unable to find a way beyond a stubborn Leeds defence.

Despite Norwich's possession, Crysencio Summerville saw an effort saved by Gunn.

A corner routine from Sara found Núñez on the edge of the area, but the Chilean's effort was blocked.

The hosts could've added a second goal, but a big block from McLean denied Jaidon Anthony's effort.

Gunn was then forced into a strong stop with his feet to deny Georginio Rutter. The Norwich goalkeeper then got hands to Firpo's effort.

But there wouldn't be a way back into the game for the Canaries, as Leeds held firm for three points.
