Report | Canaries held to goalless draw by Preston

Norwich City were held to a 0-0 draw at Carrow Road by Preston North End in the Sky Bet Championship.

Norwich City were held to a 0-0 draw at Carrow Road by Preston North End in the Sky Bet Championship.

The home team had the lion's share of possession and scoring opportunities but failed to take the three points.

David Wagner made two changes to his starting line-up from the win against Bristol City the previous weekend, Christian Fassnacht and Adam Idah coming into the starting team.

The Canaries started the more progressive with Ashley Barnes having a claim for a penalty waved away and Marcelino Núñez worrying Freddie Woodman from long range.

Onel Hernández tested Woodman first after Dimi Giannoulis and Idah had linked up in midfield to create the opportunity.

Not long after, Fassnacht had an effort cleared off the line.

Defensive duo Shane Duffy and Kenny McLean handled anything that came their way in the first 45 minutes but at the other end, Norwich failed to make their dominance count.

The second half continued as the first finished but Preston still withheld the pressure.

They almost snatched the opening goal when Brad Potts blasted over after an hour.

Ben Whiteman made a big block to deny substitute Jonathan Rowe before going down the other end and hitting the crossbar himself.

It was another of the reinforcements who had the next big chance for Norwich but Liam Gibbs couldn't find the bottom corner from 11 yards.

Duffy had a header turned off the line by Alan Browne as the game entered the final five minutes.

In injury time, it seemed like the visitors would snatch the win but a goalmouth scramble after a set-piece came to nothing.

Sheffield Wednesday come to Carrow Road on Wednesday evening as Norwich will look to get back to winning ways.
