Norwich City beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 in the Sky Bet Championship courtesy of goals from Borja Sainz, Ashley Barnes and Jonathan Rowe.

Making his first start for the Canaries, Sainz grabbed his first Carrow Road goal before Bailey Cadamarteri equalised.

Immediately after the break, Barnes would restore the lead before Rowe settled the contest in the final 20 minutes.

David Wagner made three changes to the team that drew 0-0 with Preston North End the previous Saturday and it paid off.

It was Sainz who lit up Carrow Road inside the first seven minutes with a thunderous opener.

He was found by Kenny McLean before cutting across the edge of the penalty area and firing into the top corner.

The visitors, who had been on a good run of form coming into this one, tried to level matters immediately but Shane Duffy made a vital block to deny Cadamarteri before Angus Gunn palmed away a header from Michael Ihiekwe.

Barnes almost made it two as the clock struck 30 minutes, excellently set up by Adam Idah, but his effort cannoned off the crossbar.

Moments later, a long throw headed on by Ihiekwe was headed in by Cadamarteri for the equaliser.

Just after the goal, another chance fell to the City number 10 but his chipped effort was over the crossbar.

First-half added time offered City the chance to regain the lead but Rowe was denied by a block before Cameron Dawson stopped Idah's header.

We didn't have to wait long in the second half with a sweeping move from front to back ending with Sainz sliding the ball with the outside of his foot to Barnes who made no mistake.

And the Canaries were much the better side throughout, which was cemented with a third goal as Rowe headed in at the back post from a Dimi Giannoulis cross.

Sainz was replaced with just over 10 minutes remaining after a goal and assist.

City were content to control the game from there.

However, Gunn was called upon once more to save a header from Callum Paterson in the fourth minute of 10 added on.
