Christoph Zimmermann has given canaries.co.uk his response to Sunday's 5-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

"It’s hard to find the right words," he said. "I feel right now we’re down on our knees and it probably can’t get much worse. We know we were relegated a few games ago. Finishing with a 5-0 defeat is the worst thing that could’ve happened.

"We feel we’ve let our supporters down. It’s not what they deserve as a finish to the season, but unfortunately in a way it’s a reflection of the season. If you look at the table, we’ve just not been good enough, and today we were miles off.

"The first goal was an easy ball over the top. The second goal was also a gift. If we’re really honest, they could have also scored before the third and straight before the fourth goal. I didn’t feel like we could hurt them or get close to them. We’ve been second best to them in everything.

"It’s important that we feel the way we feel today. We have to remember that feeling because it’s one of the worst feelings in the world and your playing career can’t get much worse. You need to remember what that feels like.

"We’ve got a few days to digest what we’ve been going through, what happened today and over the course of the season, and then we need to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and make sure that everyone who is here next season is here for the right reasons and that we’ve got a strong squad together.

"We’re all in this and we need to turn it round not just from the start of pre-season, but it’s best for everyone to tick off the season in the next couple of days and see what they can do better.

"We’ve got to be prepared for the Championship. We’ve been there, I’ve played three seasons in the Championship and know what a tough league it is. You need to be prepared and ready for it.

"I was positively surprised by how much applause we still got \[at the end of the game\]. Everyone can be angry and frustrated with us, certainly on a day like today, so I really appreciate that there were so many who still tried to lift the spirits for us a little bit.

"It’s been a tough, long afternoon today and everyone is angry, frustrated and disappointed. All the support we get is appreciated and all the criticism we get is deserved."
