David Wagner's Norwich City reign began with an Emirates FA Cup third round exit at the hands of Blackburn Rovers.
A changed looking Norwich side, including the reintroduction of Tim Krul and Dimi Giannoulis, went down by a single goal to the visitors.
Jack Vale's 31st-minute effort would prove to be the difference at the end of the 90 minutes.
The Canaries had started quickly with Adam Idah and Teemu Pukki rotating as the front man in a 4-2-3-1. The former almost fashioned an opening inside a minute but his final ball was just cut out.
From there, Rovers had the best opportunity when Krul had to come off his line and make himself big to deny Bradley Dack at the far post.
City, however, would control the possession without forcing too much work from Aynsley Pears.
With almost half an hour gone, Onel Hernández would find Pukki with a front post cross but the Finn's effort looped over the Rovers crossbar.
Moments later, Rovers would take the lead as the rain started to come down.
A backpass from Grant Hanley was short to Krul who snuffed out the initial effort but Dack reacted quickest, squaring the ball to Jack Vale to finish.
Norwich came in search of an equaliser but the best chance they could fashion before the half-time whistle was a Gabriel Sara strike from the edge of the box which Pears palmed away to safety.
City's start to the second half was encouraging with Idah, Marcelino Núñez and Pukki all having attempts for an equaliser.
Hernández followed that with a clever turn and shot from outside the penalty area but, again, Pears was alert to it.
Max Aarons was next to force a save from the Rovers 'keeper, weaving his way into the box before unleashing an effort which was tipped over.
The introduction of Jordan Hugill up front gave Blackburn a different challenge to deal with and he tested Pears twice in quick succession.
First, a side-footed effort was comfortably held by the 'keeper before a header was tipped over the crossbar.
In the end, City would fail to grab the all-important equaliser and force a replay.
