Norwich took home all three points in their Premier League fixture against Burnley today, with goals from Pierre Lees-Melou and Teemu Pukki.
Dean Smith made just one change to City’s starting eleven against Brighton last weekend, swapping Billy Gilmour for Kieran Dowell.
City started the game positively, holding possession in the midfield and taking the first shot at the target, as Milot Rashica had an effort from inside the box saved by Burnley keeper Nick Pope.
Burnley had their first attempt just a minute later as a header from inside the box went straight to Tim Krul and the flag was raised for offside.
Pierre Lees-Melou then opened the scoring for City as a Dowell corner was scrambled away and the number 20 took aim from the edge of the box. His shot beat the Burnley defence and went in off the post to make it 1-0, with nine minutes on the clock.
The Yellows midfield continued to dominate, as Lees-Melou and Teemu Pukki teamed up to put pressure on the Burnley back line.
At the 17-minute mark, Lees-Melou managed to get a ball through to Pukki, whose shot was blocked by Pope’s foot and cleared away.
Mathias Normann was next to have a go, as just a minute later, and after some encouragement from the crowd, he shot from 45 yards out, just inches high of the target.
Burnley then found their stride, putting pressure on in the Norwich half, after advantage was played at 26 minutes and Maxwel Cornet had a shot from just inside the box that Krul was forced to punch wide.
The Clarets were awarded a free kick in the 42nd minute on the edge of the area after Byram pulled down Wout Weghorst.
Josh Brownhill stepped up to take it and fired it over the bar.
Matthew Lowton had the final shot of the half from just inside the box, but couldn’t hit the target and City went in ahead at the break.
The second half started off fairly even between the two sides, with the first shot at goal not coming until the 49th minute from Rashica, who fired straight at Nick Pope.
Burnley’s first key chance of the half came from a Brownhill cross that Rodriguez headed high and wide.
At 53 minutes on the clock, Burnley lost possession in a dangerous position, as Dowell fed a ball through to Pukki, whose shot was blocked by Tarkowsi.
Lees-Melou's final involvement before being subbed off for Lukas Rupp came on the break, as he managed a ball over to Dowell, who lost possession on the edge of the box.
Just past the hour mark, Sam Byram lost possession on the half way line to substitute Dwight McNeil, who crossed into the box for Cornet to tap the ball over from inside the six-yard box.
Rodriguez came agonisingly close in the 66th minute, as he headed a ball in the box from close range, inches over the bar.
The pressure from Burnley didn’t get to the Yellows, as Pukki kept City’s hopes of a second goal alive with a shot from the edge of the box that rolled just wide of the mark.
At 78 minutes, City were awarded consecutive free kicks as Rupp was fouled just inside the 30-yard line and Pukki was then fouled from the resulting ball in from Raschica.
Normann crosses to an unmarked Pukki, whose shot went wide and fell to Grant Hanley who managed to header the ball onto the bar and over.
Pukki then looked to put the game to bed in the 85th minute as Normann did well to pick him out on the edge of the box, and the Finnish international went one-on-one with Pope to fire home City’s second.
Krul was required to spring into action in injury time, as he was forced to tip away Brownhill’s powerful strike.
City are now unbeaten in their last two matches and face Manchester United away next on Saturday, April 16.
