Norwich City Under-23s scored four in a comfortable win over Stoke City in the Premier League 2 Division Two, with goals from Clarke, Springett and Kamara.

Wolverhampton Wanderers U23s moved into second place earlier on in the day after a win over fifth place Southampton, pushing City down to third.

Stoke City U23s came into the game full of confidence, having been unbeaten in four league matches.

The game got off to a slow start, with neither side troubling the other in the box, nor wanting to make the first mistake.

Saxon Earley was the first to go into the referee’s book after he received a yellow card for a foul on a Potters player, but the home side couldn’t create anything from the resulting free kick.

Flynn Clarke made the breakthrough for City at the 38-minute mark as he ran in from 25 yards out to meet the end of a Tony Springett ball that set him up nicely to header home.

The two sides went in at half time with it all still to play for with only one goal separating them both.

Stoke started the second half livelier, but they could not keep City at bay for long, as Springett netted his first of the night at the 66 minute mark.

It wasn’t long before he had his second, as Liam Gibbs set the winger up for the second time tonight and made it three to the visitors.

At 83 minutes, the Canaries were awarded a penalty and Springett stepped up to take but was denied a hat-trick with a great save from the Potters’ keeper Hemfrey who saved from the spot.

One minute later, however, Abu Kamara wrapped the game up for City to slot home for the Yellows’ fourth of the night.
