The Community Sports Foundation’s Coastal Walk Challenge made its return in recent weeks following a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Taking to the Norfolk Coast Path across three dates were around 220 fundraisers, all tackling their chosen distance of either 6 miles, 12miles, 22 miles or 47 miles from the start point in Hunstanton.
Among the 60 Norwich City FC staff who took part were sporting director Stuart Webber and business & project director Zoe Ward, who both completed the full distance to Cromer.
Since it began in 2011, the Coastal Walk Challenge has established itself as one of the Foundation’s most important, gruelling, and memorable fundraising events.
Social distancing restrictions meant that this year the challenge was split across three events.
While unpredictable weather conditions brought glorious sunshine, driving rain and even hail for the walkers, all the groups were treated to beautiful scenery and across-the-route support from a team of Foundation staff, marshals and volunteers.
With funds still coming in, Emma Fletcher-Dungay – the Foundation’s Senior Fundraising & Events Manager – estimates the Challenge has raised over £32,000 for the Foundation.
“Whatever distance you do, the Challenge is not easy. We’re so proud of everyone who battled aches, pains and blisters to keep going to the finish line,” she said.
“The funds raised from the Challenge will support our work to provide inclusive activities for people with disabilities and opportunities for people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“We can’t thank everyone enough for taking part, including our colleagues from the football club.
“It is wonderful to be hosting our programme of fundraising events again, and we look forward to more challenges this year including our Three Peaks Challenge, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and the Hadrian’s Wall Challenge.”
As well as our volunteers, marshals and support staff, the Foundation would like to thank the follow organisations for supporting the Challenge:
