The Fosters Solicitors Community Hero for our fixture with Blackburn Rovers is Martin Eagle from Norwich, who volunteers for the Community Sports Foundation’s Duncan’s Club.
Martin, a lifelong City fan, gives up his time every week to support the club, which provides activities for people with dementia and those that care for them.
The club has been named after Canaries legend Duncan Forbes, who was affected by dementia in later life.
The Foundation’s Jo Woolnough nominated Martin for his selfless work to prepare activities each week for the participants, including presentations and showcasing memorabilia from sporting events in years gone by.
His efforts complement the work of the Foundation’s team who facilitate gentle movement and activity including dance and table tennis.
With his typical humility, Martin said: “This is for all volunteers at Duncan’s Club, and for the Community Sports Foundation, who had the foresight to set it up.
“We have seen such an impact already, including the wife of one of our participants who burst out crying at the first session, after her husband, who had been previously silent, began to sing.”
Martin’s love for Norwich City began in the 1950s attending games with his father and says the earliest game he can remember clearly was a 5-1 home win over Port Vale in 1959.
The Foundation would like to thank Martin and all the Duncan’s Club volunteers for making such a difference to those that attend.
