Our Community Hero for Norwich City’s fixture against Middlesbrough, in partnership with Fosters Solicitors, is Tyrone Power, chosen by Forces2Canaries.
Forces2Canaries are an official Norwich City fan group that aim to provide a central social supporter group for all like-minded serving and veteran military Canaries.
Tyrone is the chairman of the local Royal Marines Association and a Royal Marine Veteran, having served in the Falklands Campaign and in three tours of Northern Ireland.
He spent five years in the RAF, 19 years in the Royal Marines and 17 years in the Ministry of Defence Police.
Since his retirement, Tyrone, or Marty to his friends, has been a volunteer, delivering meals to the elderly in his local community every Monday to Friday.
He is also the Standard bearer for the RMA and attends many military events, including funerals for veteran military personnel throughout Norfolk, carrying the RMA standard.
In his spare time, Tyrone checks out local Commonwealth War Graves to ensure they are in good condition.
The community hero said: “I am immensely proud to have been nominated for this honour.
“I was born and bred in Old Buckenham and have followed Norwich ever since I was ten years old. Because of my military service, I was unable to attend as many Norwich games as I would have liked.”
On top of all his volunteering, Tyrone still manages to fit in supporting Norwich City home and away.
Forces2Canaries chairman Neville Townsend, who nominated Tyrone for the award, said: “Tyrone can always be relied on to give up his time to help others in the local community, whether it’s his standard bearer duties for the Royal Marines or meals on wheels.
“Whenever he is required, however short notice, he will be there.”
