Dean Smith spoke to Canaries TV following Norwich City's 2-1 defeat away at Luton Town on Boxing Day.
"It was a scrappy game," Smith said. "One that we probably expected. Lots of turnovers, and weren't good enough in the first half with the ball.
"They've had some chances with headers, as they've put the ball in the box very early. They go back to front very quickly, we've put in an extra defender today. To go into half-time at 0-0, I expected better in the second half.
"But goals win you games like they did tonight."
Andrew Omobamidele returned to the City line-up, as Smith opted to switch to a back three, with the head coach hoping it would bring Teemu Pukki and Josh Sargent closer together.
"We wanted to get Teemu and Josh up front together. We knew if we played a flat back four, they'd target Max Aarons. But they did that anyway.
"I think they won the physical battle in the first half, hence the change at half-time. I thought we were better in the second half. You've got to create chances and show the quality in the final third, and we've not to give sloppy goals away."
Adam Idah replaced Gabriel Sara at the break in the game at Kenilworth Road, with Smith hoping to add a different dimension to the game in the second half.
"I felt like it broke down too often, and I felt Adam could make it stick a bit better, and felt Josh could do well in behind them. I thought it worked, I thought we were better in the second half. But we lose it with two stupid goals.
"We got back into the game, and had a golden chance with Luton having a man sent off. We had a lot of the ball, but not enough quality in the final third."
It's a quick turnaround for Norwich, as they welcome to Reading to Carrow Road on Friday night.
"We've got to react, that's all we can do. We can't change what's happened, we've got to put it right."
