Norwich City head coach Dean Smith has given canaries.co.uk his thoughts following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat away to Hull City.
“Bitterly disappointing because it’s a game we’ve dominated and been camped in their half," he said. "The last 25 minutes was like attack versus defence. We could’ve won the game in the first 15 minutes, such was our superiority and the chances we created, but we gave a calamitous goal away and it gave them something to cling on.
"We had a two or three minute spell in the second half where we failed to do the things we had been doing previously. They ended up getting a shot from the box deflected for a corner and we didn’t defend the set-piece well.
"Núñez went and got us a lifeline with a superb goal that lifted everybody. If Ramsey scored we’d go and win the game, but I don’t want to be a broken record every week. We want to win football games and that’s what we come here to do. We’re playing well enough to win, we’re just making silly errors at the moment.
"On another day, we definitely come away with three points. They’ll feel they got out of jail a little bit and it’s frustrating because there’s some really good football there, just a couple of mistakes we’re getting punished for at the moment."
Following injuries to left-backs Dimitris Giannoulis and Sam McCallum, Smith had to remove Jacob Sørensen from the pitch during the second half.
"Lungi rolled his ankle going for a cross field ball so I don’t know how bad that is," he said. "We’ll have to wait and see.
"With Lungi having to come off, the only viable option was to put Kenny at left-back and Gibbs in midfield. I thought Milot wasn’t producing as much as I’d like him to, so I thought Sargent might do that and he gave us extra legs in the final third."
Núñez scored a great free-kick to pull one back late on, and almost equalised with another set-piece in stoppage time.
"He’s a good footballer," Smith said. "You can see he enjoys it and can pull strings with the way he plays. Great free kick and he does that regularly in training as well so it’s not a surprise to us. We’ve got a very good footballer there."
Asked for his message to the Norwich fans, Smith said:
"They’ll be as disappointed as we are and I can tell them that the players are distraught in there. I can honestly say they’re giving us everything, we’re just making too many silly little errors and not enough good decisions in the final third. They’ll be pleased with the display at times but disappointed with the result, as we all are."
