Dean Smith guided his side to the first win of the season after a largely dominant display against Huddersfield Town.
“I feel relieved,” he told canaries.co.uk. “We needed a win and it was thoroughly deserved. I thought we played really well for large periods of the game.
“We didn’t do it the easy way – it wasn’t even that nervy. They scored from a breakaway so we’ve go to do better defensively there.
“I thought we saw the game out quite well. We made a couple of silly decisions and Grant ended up having to get a block in at the end but on the whole, we should have scored more goals and won a lot more comfortably.
“I am really pleased to get the first win on the board and hopefully we can get the second one on Friday.”
Josh Sargent netted first for the Canaries after six minutes, with his first goal since January this year.
“I’m really pleased for Sarge, he’s come in today because Teemu had a swollen foot – he couldn’t get his boot on so we decided to start Sarge and him and Danel hit off a really good relationship.
“I’m really pleased he got his first goal of the season – it was a really good header and he looked dangerous. That’ll do him the world of good.”
With injuries for Sam McCallum, Dimitris Giannoulis and Jacob Sørensen, Kenny McLean stepped into left-back position tonight.
“Kenny was comfortable in his position. He knows the game, he understands it and he makes it look simple at times.
“He’s very underrated at times but we know he can fill in that position. I thought he did really well today.
“It felt like we just limped over the line at the end, but for large parts of that game we were untroubled and comfortable.
“We had the majority of the ball, created some really good chances, made some really good opportunities and played some really good football.”
Dean Smith talked about what he said to the players after the game and gave his thoughts ahead of Millwall at home on Friday night.
“I said to the players in the dressing room, put a smile on your face. It’s the first win and let’s make Friday the second and take the positive from it. We’ll go back and analyse the game and show some really good play."
