Norwich City head coach Dean Smith is happy with how his side's pre-season preparations are going so far, following Tuesday night's 2-0 win at King's Lynn Town.
"It was a routine 60 minutes for some of the lads and 30 minutes for some of the others," he told canaries.co.uk post-match.
"We’re getting to the stage where we’re getting to where we want them to be, conditions were tough, the pitch was quite hard and the weather we’ve been having, we started a bit sloppy and slow on the ball but grew into it.
"They made a big mistake for the goal and Teemu scored but we should’ve been scoring a lot more with the amount of the ball we had and the chances we created."
Tim Krul and Andrew Omobamidele both had their first starts of pre-season, playing the first half of the game.
"Andy and Tim were both in good shape – Tim’s obviously been away with internationals and Andy’s obviously had the injury, so we’ve been nursing him back. He’s got 45 minutes today so we're really pleased for him."
Teemu Pukki went down in the second half, but thankfully Smith said that it doesn't look too serious.
"Teemu got his customary goal and unfortunately got clattered from behind and it's just a contact injury so he’ll be back in training on Thursday," he said.
For City's other goal, Dimitris Giannoulis and Christos Tzolis showed good understanding to link up the play.
"Dimi and Christos had a really good link up. King's Lynn got a good block on another chance that Christos had as well so it's given him a boost, getting on the scoresheet, but really good link up.
"It was good reverse movement, Onel came short and Dimi went long and put a really good ball in behind for Christos to score, so I’m pleased with the goals."
As for new signing Isaac Hayden, Smith provided an update on the fitness of the Newcastle loanee.
"Isaac came and trained the first week and unfortunately has had swelling on the knee.
"He went to see a consultant yesterday who’s flushed it out, so we won’t be seeing him for the rest of pre-season, but we’ll hopefully have him back for the early start of the season."
Following the pre-season training camp in Germany, Smith is happy with how the squad's preparation is going for the new campaign.
"The trip to Germany was really good, we're getting to know an awful lot about the players, the internationals are fully back, a couple of the young lads have gone on loan and we’ve seen them and they’re going to continue their development by playing more regular games now.
"In terms of our first team squad. We’re in a good place, we’re looking to still add to the squad as always and there may still be some going out.
"The games go up \[in difficulty\] all the time now, it’s the pre-season I wanted, to build up gradually and we’ve got a big game against Marseille, a Champions League team and it’ll be a real tough place to go, especially with the heat, that will certainly test the players.
"Then we come back to Cambridge and a double header with Celtic and Hibernian, so really good games to get us prepared for Cardiff City, the most important one."
